Have you ever visited Design*Sponge or seen Domino magazine?

How uncomfortable you look!
But I don't care!
You are my one true love!!!
You are my squishy Sitterson baby lovey-dovey poopy-scoopy-snoopy-doopy!
Is more animal baby-talk necessary? Probably not, but I could keep going all night!
If you don't like cats it's probably because you don't understand them. And that's ok; other people do.

Here's what my book is looking like as of last night!
I think the design will be really good when I get it filled in; I've never done any embroidery, but I know four stitches as this point and that should do me for now. If not, there's always Google!
Ok, here's what you're looking at:
The DMC embroidery thread/floss, the cover boards/book jacket with the holes drilled on one side only, the actual gust of the book (or the codex) opened to the end sheets (that's an awl made of an antler resting on top of it) and the embroidery pattern for the cover (it's upside down in this picture).
What I've had to do is use the drill press (I love using "heavy machinery" for stereotypically delicate projects!) to drill the holes after I've marked the holes with pencil after I've used the awl to punch holes through the pattern after I've drawn the pattern. It's a process, but the end result will be worth it!
I LOVE making books. I love sewing too. I hadn't really realized this until a few years ago. I bought a little sewing machine from Michael's or something for like $20. It's small enough to fit into a shoe box, but it's good enough for now. I don't use it very much, but I like having it. What I really like is using a needle and thread.
There's something so innately feminine about sewing; I like that. I also like that I'm sewing through holes I made using a drill press! How stereotypically un-feminine! :)

One of the things I love about embroidery floss is the vast array of colors. You can find thread to match anything!
I'm making a book using one of the last pieces of my very favorite fabric on the spine. I've decided I want to sew some designs all over the cover that will match my fabric, so I went to "my local craft store" and got a dozen different sheaves of floss in colors that match the colors in my fabric. Cool.
I'll take a pic of the book later tonight @class. :)
(I just took this picture from the parking garage @work. Lunch time is soooo exciting. not.)

Hurricane Ike wasn't as bad as they thought it might be up here. We had very different rain on Saturday. You just knew it wasn't a thunder storm; it really did feel like hurricane spawned winds and rain.
Last night it was so quiet you could have heard a cricket blink. It felt clean to me. The moon was bright and the stars were out in full force. It made me very aware of my existance; I was really in the moment as I stood there soaking up the moonlight.
This morning was sunny and happy and all day it was just beautiful. The temperature was just right and the wind helped everything feel very fresh. Great day for a bike ride!
I hope everyone's ok down south!

Apparently Violet didn't like the sticky coupon being stuck to her head...
Man, I wish I had video on my phone!

Here's what she has to say:
Before you hit 'forward' on that e-mail...
...you might want to check out this website.
Factcheck.org is a great resource for checking the validity of those rumors you hear about politicians and their policies. And Snopes.com does a fantastic job of researching those e-mails we all receive on everything from gasoline and terrorism to missing children and letting us know if the claims they make are true (hint: most of the time, they’re not!).
I get really frustrated with the number of forwards I get claiming that Candidate X is this or that negative adjective and did - or plans to do - this or that “un-American” thing. I’m not going to tell anyone who to vote for in November; I trust you’re adults and can make your own educated decisions. But I do want to encourage you to look past the pundits’ spin and dig for the truth. I am 95% sure who I’m voting for, but instead of having intelligent conversations about the campaigns, I’ve spent 95% of my political energy defending the other guy against accusations that just aren’t true. I want to make sure that when I head to the polls in November, I’m making a choice based on an accurate picture of both sides.
Oh, and if you’re really looking to have a good time, check out OpenSecrets.org. It’ll tell you who is getting funding (presidential candidates, Congressional representatives, etc.) and where (and who!) it’s coming from. Money talks - what does it say about the person you’re voting for?
Just something I’ve been thinking about today.
Thank you Miss Seifipour. I always know I can count on you!
